This journey has taken me a while but has been so worth it. I'm still not exactly where I want to be but I have come a very long way. I had been trying to get on a health kick for years but I always fell off track. As some of you know, I was bulimic. I thought that throwing up all the food I ate would solve my problems but in reality all it did was make me gain weight and make my life very depressing and unhealthy. Eating disorders are very serious and never the way to a healthy life. Something important to understand is that this process can be frustrating. Results don't come from one day to the next. I started seeing results about 2-3 months after getting really serious about my goals. Stay positive, continue pushing yourself, and never give up until you get where you want to be in life. Anyone can make this change, it's just all up to you & the decisions you make in order to be successful in your journey towards a healthy lifestyle.
Everyone wants to be "fit". However, not everyone wants to put in the work. That was my mentality for a solid year. I wanted abs, I wanted to look like girls on Instagram, I wanted to love my Self; but I also wanted the easy way out. I would go out drink, smoke & surround myself around the wrong crowd. I would starve myself almost all day, binge all night, & force myself to throw up thinking it would help me "lose weight". I suffered from binging and bulimia for a solid 8 months. I then realized that all I was doing was hurting myself inside & out. I was gaining more weight than ever before & was very sad. That's when I realized I had to change my life. I didn't look at this as a "diet". I looked at this journey as a life change. I started eating extremely clean Whole Foods. I never tracked macros but just from the way I would eat I knew I wasn't over eating and I was getting the right nutrients my body needed. I lost 30lbs by myself in less than a year. I would go to the gym and do over 45 minutes of cardio and never lifted anything heavy because I was scared of getting "bulky". Although I was happy with where I was at I still wanted more & that's when I began prepping for my first NPC Bikini show. The coach I first had, had me on very low calories and lots of cardio. I lost so much muscle along the process and my body became so sensitive to everything. I placed 1st in the teen division in my first show. I then competed at my second show and placed 2nd in teen and 3rd in open class B. As soon as I hit an off season I started prepping with my new coach @prepbywill. He had me eating around 2100 calories during my off season and helped me get healthy and put on some muscle. He helped me stop worrying about having abs year round & showed me that lifting heavy won't get me bulky. That's when all gears in my head made a switch & shit got real. I put on 16lbs during off season & I knew I put on lots of muscle. That being said, when I began my cut for my next show it was a breeze. My body was reacting so well and my calories have not dropped under 1400 my entire prep. I placed 1st at the Grand Prix & 1st in my class at my first ever National level show (Jr USA's). Im now prepping for my next show (southern states) & then plan on doing another national level show this year to get that pro card!
Now... what does fitness mean to you ?
I used to view fitness as a look. To me being fit used to mean being extremely lean with abs year round. Well I no longer think like that and neither should anyone else. Being that lean is not maintainable. We all have to stop comparing ourselves to people on magazines & the internet. Why ? Because most of the people you see shredded on social media or magazines prep for that specific photoshoot & 3 days later I promise you they don't look that shredded. Being fit to me now means being CONSISTENT. Putting in the work day in and day out and giving your body the fuel it needs to push you through every work out & to make you feel good. I'm not saying you can't enjoy yourself and treat yourself with a burger or some ice cream from time to time but for the most part give your body the nutrients & micros it needs to stay active and healthy. Being healthy inside and out is what being fit should be. Not a "look".
1. what are your thoughts in the fitness industry across all platforms when it comes to women empowering each other and what more can people do to motivate each other ?
I see that we need more women in this industry that aren't so competitive against each other. They should be motivating each other and pushing each other each and everyday not only physically but mentally as well. What I think more people can do to motivate each other is showing constant support and positivity no matter how hard things can get we should always be there helping each other through the process.
2. How long do you cut & bulk & how many calories do you eat for each ?
It all depends on when my next show is but I don't really "bulk", I just work on gaining lean body mass. This doesn't mean I gain a ton of fat because when I cut for my next show, it puts my hard earned lean body mass at risk. When it comes to calories I don't really know because I just follow the meal plan my coach gives me to reach any goal I'm trying to accomplish so he's the one that knows all my macros and calorie intake.
3. When are you competing next?
April or May
4. How do I deal with cravings ?
I'll have coffee or I learn how to make the foods I eat sweet in some way with Walden farms, stevia, or cinnamon!
5. When you first started your fitness journey, how long did it take you to lose the weight ? & what did you do to lose it?
Took me about 3 months to start seeing results and I was very consistent and never gave up. There's no easy or fast way to lose weight. It evolves a clean diet and hard work at the gym EVERYDAY. It's all about consistency.
6. How do you make protein fluff ?
7. How do you do fasted cardio while your in school ?
I wake up 1 hour earlier and go to the gym at 5am to get my cardio in before school
8. How do you cut carbs for fat loss ?
When cutting carbs you want to do it slowly so your body can adjust and make sure you know how much to cut because everyone's body works differently. This is a big reason why I recommend getting a coach.
9. What helped you stop binge eating ?
I was extremely unhealthy, unhappy, and overweight. I decided to not only stop binge eating but change my entire life style. This change not only helped me lose weight but changed my mentality as well.
10. In one gym session how long do you do cardio & how long do you lift ?
It all depends on what I'm working out that day but my lifts can last 1-2 hours and my cardio varies depending on what my coach wants me doing but right now I'm doing 6x a week for 30 min on the stair master.
11. What are some tips on meal prepping for beginners?
Pre cook all your carb & protein sources and leave them in your fridge for easy access such as rice, sweet potato, quinoa, chicken, ground turkey, & steak. I also like pre packing my meals for the week since I am on a meal plan I already know all my meals for the week so I like weighing them all out and putting them into separate containers so that all I have to do throughout the week is throw them in the microwave and eat! However since most of you aren't on a meal plan I would recommend just pre cooking all the whole food sources of carbs and protein so that it's easy access to a healthy yummy meal everyday! A lot of time I found myself turning to sandwiches or food that isn't so nutrient dense just because I didn't have meal prepped and ready to eat so I highly recommend you do that to make sure you get those micronutrients in everyday!
This weekend was absolutley amazing!
Won first place in my first teen NPC bikini competition. All the long hours of fasted cardio, low carbs, mood swings, low energy levels & many more prep stresses paid off. The passion I have for this sport grows daily. Finally stepping on that stage yesterday only motivated me more to set higher goals for my self and come into my next comp even stronger. My next comp is 3 weeks from now and I can't wait to get back on stage; the joy I felt up there was like no other. I'd like to give a big thank you to my amazing coach @mr.fpn and the best team I could ever ask for @fitnesspowernation . I honestly wouldn't have been able to do this without them💪🏼 Here's to many more comps, memories, and wins!
I would like to thank you all for the constant support and words of inspiration that have helped me reach my goals. I have reached the point in my journey where I have decided to create a new goal for myself! Nothing excites me more than a challenge & I have now set a new one for myself. I've met so many great people in this industry but I'd like to give a shoutout to @randyfitness_ who is a Men's Physique Fitness Competitor who has inspired me to get into the competitive world of fitness! He introduced me to his coach, @mr.fpn who is now my coach currently prepping me to compete in the Bikini Division! Since I am preparing to compete, my meals & workout schedules will change! I am changing my diet to adjust to my new training schedule. However, I promise to keep posting recipes I make for my family & others and I'll continue posting my workouts daily on snapchat! I hope you guys supports the decision I've made and help me prep for competition with some motivational words! I love you all! keep grinding💪🏼
30 second transformation
These pictures were taken 30 seconds apart. On the left I'm not flexing and standing up straight. However, on the pic to the right I'm tightening my stomach up, pushing my hip a little back and to the side, and facing more towards the light coming from my window!
We all look at these girls on fitness accounts with the "perfect body" but I promise you no one looks ripped 24/7 & that's completely normal! Most of the bodies you see on social media are girls drenched in body oil to help enhance their muscle definition, spray tanned, & plenty of them are photoshopped by professionals. So do me a favor.. do not stress it if you don't look like 80% of the fitness pics on social media. Everyone has good and bad days. Some days I wake up feeling extremely bloated and as if all my hard work hasn't payed off and other days I wake up wanting to take 1000 bikini pictures because of how skinny I look & feel! I just want you all to know, no one is perfect & we all don't always look ripped all the time; the abs are there but don't always completely show and that's okay ! Of course everyone posts the pics we look best in but be happy with how far you've come and don't stress out just because your abs aren't visible all the time!
Happy Sunday fit fam!
Who doesn't love eating out ? I know I do! Especially on a beautiful Sunday morning🌞 So.. I DID ! THE HEALTHY WAY💪🏼
Woke up early this morning to watch the sunrise with my boyfriend and then ate at the cutest organic cafe in Miami beach "Pura Vida" 🍽☕️ I had never been there so I was very excited to give it a try! The service was great and quick but the food was even better😍 Not only did they have plenty of options but they let me add 25g whey protein to my waffles, everything on their menu is portioned properly, it's all organic, and they even have Ezekiel bread! I highly recommend anyone who lives in Miami to give this place a try‼️
We all know eating out isn't always the best choice, but we can find places that are healthy and tasty! However, BE CAREFUL! Most places that are portrayed as "healthy" may not be as healthy as we think they are! Today I'm going to give you guys some fit tips on how to eat out while making sure you stay healthy and happy😊
- slows metabolism
- Increases appetite "drunchies" : over eating and eating junky foods while intoxicated
- hangovers : how do you plan on getting up and working out if your still drained from last night ?
- Can damage the stomach, kidneys, & liver
